Our Children Continue to Meet
8 November 2020

As today was Remembrance Sunday, the children all made crosses, winding round white wool of ribbon to make white poppies in remembrance of the civilians who have died in times of war. The purple ones are in memory of animals. The children have stuck the crosses in the ground outside where they live with a message for passers-by to read. Here are a couple for you to see, but there were 9 children busy making them, with many a poignant message.
During Lockdown we can't meet in Mayow Park, so will be on Zoom for the next 3 Sundays. We have had a couple of Children's Meetings in the park focusing on the trees, how precious they are and the great North Wood. Attached is a photo of the acorns we collected, dropped by the 400 year old Holm Oat that we sit under, placed in the inner circle of the aboriginal symbol for a meeting.
There are 17 children who have taken part in either the Zoom or the Mayow Park Children's Meetings. Forest Hill Meeting is lucky to have such a wonderful group of Quaker children. |
In Normal Times.......
We have a thriving and growing children’s meeting. There are three groups every Sunday in term time and a single all-age group during the holidays. We hold All Age Worship each term and run a number of other events.
This year, over 40 children and young people have attended Children’s Meeting. We have a growing number of babies and toddlers in our under 3’s group and a thriving group of 3–9 year olds as well as young people 10 and over.

It is important to provide a range of activities which meet the different needs of this wide age range. Consequently, we plan each term carefully, with a theme that covers a wide range of possibilities. In the past year, the topics have been ‘communications’, ‘peace’ and ‘anger’. This term’s topic is ‘buildings’. We look forward to exploring the spiritual aspects of each theme or topic and we invite all parents and friends to consider how they uphold and nurture the children’s meeting as we consider these important concepts and questions.
We take safeguarding the children very seriously, click the button for more details
